I posted this question in the GCCT forum as well.

Just looking to see what hospital based PICU/NICU teams do regarding transports at the end of your shift? Is there a set time, that the transport is held until new "refreshed and rested" team is sent out?

Thanks.

At my previous program, which was hospital based peds/neo team, it would depend on what the flight was for generally and the priority.

If it was a priority one or two call, or a Bravo call (intubated) the team would be dispatched regardless right up until the end of the shift (12hrs), and if you relief showed up before we pulled power they could swap out but we wouldn't delay the flight. That was for peds. NICU typically waited until shift change for everything, unless it was a cooling kid.

Our departure if within 20 min of next shift can wait for shift change. If greater than 20 min based on pt acuity and attending approval?

We have shifts overlap by 30 minutes. If its close, the current team gets everything ready to go and the other team takes over otherwise the team on goes.
