On Sunday, July 4, 2010, three Air Ambulance STAT crew members were killed in a fixed-wing airplane crash near Alpine, Texas. On board the aircraft were Pilot Ted Caffarel, medical crew members Sharon Falkener and Tracy Chambers, as well as a patient and passenger. This site has been blacked out temporarily as a tribute to our fallen colleagues.

This guest book is open for anyone that would like to offer their messages of support. Please remember not to ask questions or be critical of the circumstances regarding this incident.

Sharon: A month has gone by and I still can't believe it. You were such a great supporter of everything Luke did and I love you for that alone, not to mention our relationship. Every phone call began with "what cha doin?" You had time for me and I had time for you. I'll miss your laugh, your smile, your "timing" and just wanted to let you know that I've added a winged broken heart to my tattoo collection in your memory. I see it every day. Come take a look. Love you, miss you always

Thanks to all those who have offered their support. Great people were lost in this accident, yet they are now using their new wings to protect the rest of us. EMS is a calling that most do not understand. These folks understood it and were very brave in their job. Sharon never ever complained when someone was in need and the little bit I knew Tracy she didnt either.

My heart goes out to the families left behind for the crew and patient/spouse. As a crew member and co-worker I will greatly miss them all.

May God watch over and protect all flight crews in EMS, Law Enforcement, Fire, and Military. Godspeed all.

July 4th, 2010 will never be forgotten for we in EMS suffered yet another tremendous loss. I had the pleasure of having Sharon as one of my Instructor's back in 96". She was a very sweet and a kind woman who wanted for us to learn. She took pride in what she did. It saddens me for the loss of the others who perished as well that day. I have also had to wonderful opportunity to fly with AASTAT in Fort Stockton. They are a wonderful group of people and I am grateful to have had the privileged to fly with them. May we continue to keep AASTAT as well as their families in thought and in prayer. Thank you for serving EMS. You will never be forgotten. Fly with the Angels. Your mission is complete. God Speed.

A very sad day indeed July 4, 2010. The day I lost one of my closet friends, I have known Sharon since 1996 when we were in the EMT-Basic class in Fort Davis. Eventually Sharon and I would complete and graduate our EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic. In 1999 Sharon and I were a part of a group that attended Texas A&M and completed our Tactical SWAT Medic class. Still later on Sharon and I would eventually would serve as medics on a tri-county SWAT team that went by the name of STAR that dealt with the flow of illegal drugs being brought into the US through Presidio & Jeff Davis counties along with several others. We proudly severed the people of Jeff Davis County as volunteer Paramedics, or as our service came to be known as the Mountain Medics after we “our class” adopted that name for our service during our basic class. Finally we would both wind up working as Flight Paramedics for AA-STAT. Something we had both talked about wanting to do during our EMS careers. Sharon had been with the company longer than I had by a year or so, eventually as always. Where you found Sharon it would not be long that I would follow. Rural West Texas, and the town of Fort Davis has lost one of the best 911 field medics ever. I will miss you Sharina as she was affectionately known to me. Sharon was always giving of her time to others that needed a helping hand. A pillar in her community of Fort Davis. A Loving wife and proud Mom as she spoke about her sons. Now only the memories of all that we encountered together remain along with an open wound in my heart where my friend and flight partner use to be. Rest In Peace and watch out for the puffy white clouds, and I will forever look for you there.

My condolences to the families of Sharon, Tracy, Ted and Mr. & Mrs. Folger. You all are in my prayers as I continue to pray for the eternal repose of Sharon’s soul.

In 1998 my father had a heart attack in Big Bend National Park. The nearest town was Alpine, Texas. After he was transported to Alpine Hospital, he and my mother were flown to Midland in a small medical emergency airplane.
