Through our labors, we want to help other people, to ease their pain, and perhaps extend another's life. So, we ply the skies and know that we have been called to this work.

When we meet our fate, whatever it happens to be, we hope to be remembered for the good we did. Steve, Erin, and Lois will have that.

It was too soon, too fast, and without the comfort of goodbye. That's what hurts.

I met Erin for the first and the last time on September 25, 2005 through a common friend who was visiting from Atlanta. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant near her Belltown apartment. I was fascinated by her profession and peppered her with lots of questions. She corrected some of my misinformation about CPR and AEDs, told us about how safe Airlift NW's operation is, shared some war stories about her many flights, shared a bit about the cabin she was buliding in the mountains, reminisced about her grandma who passed away years ago. Talked about her ma and sister. I was truly impressed by this woman and am saddened by her tragic loss. Glad to have shared with her a pleasant evening of conversation and company. Condolences to all who were lucky enough to know her better.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the friends and colleagues. Erin was a great source of knowledge to me when I was a new paramedic. She was a no-nonsense, aggressive, but caring provider. I know that she was doing what she loved, and she would have wanted it that way. Erin was the "real deal" - she had been there and done it all. She was a mentor to so many and her legacy lives on. You will be missed. I hope that her close colleagues and friends will soon find some form of peace in her passing..

It has only been 3 months since we lost three of or own in Durango. I logged on to see the blacked out web page and remember the loss of three great people. It seemed all too soon to see tragedy strike again. I am so sorry for your loss. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Bill, Scott, and Jim. They are joined by Steve, Erin, and Lois and so many others. Even though they are gone, they gave their lives to make a difference. It is up to us to keep them in our memory so that they continue to make a difference.
We are here for you and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

There is one underlying theme in all of these messages. These people that chose this career or perhaps this career chooses them are connected to each other at such a deeply spiritual way that the lay person may not understand. We do all know that these brave, spiritual and gifted souls took there last flight straight to heaven where they will continue watch over the rest of us.

May God bless them, their families, and all of the crew. Know you are in all of our thoughts and prayers. We will fly knowing there are 3 new angels watching over us.

I met Lois this February as we were learning about teaching the layperson how to treat medical emergencies in the private sector. She was a breath of fresh air in an industry that can sometimes get bogged down in the every day stuff we all deal with. She loved to fly and was great at what she did. Embracing every day as a new challenge. The industry will feel her loss for a long time to come. My prayers are with all those who knew her, the entire crew and their friends and family.

Upon seeing the screen in mourning black once again, realizing that three more of our fallen friends are now flying with golden wings, touching the stars and watching over their families and friends...is heartbreaking. It is with a heavy heart that I thank you Steve. Thank you for your sure and supportive words for a new father and new helicopter pilot. Thank you for the detailed tour of the helicopter on the pad at Harborview 11 years ago, and all the other times since:). Thank you for showing me the beauty of your scene-call takeoff’s and landings. And thank you for showing us how hard the fight can be to recover, and how determined you must be to win. Thank you for your easy smile, your listening manner, and your inspiring way of describing your job. Thank you for your all knowing squint and chuckle, and for your advice, and for your friendship. I look forward to seeing you again someday and showing you a new rating or two again. You truly left a legacy.

To Steve's family I say may Jehovah hold you in his tender love and comfort you from his word. May the blessings of your life of faith visit your beautiful family continuously during this difficult time. Your loss is mourned within the local Fire and EMS community and we will be here for you.

To the Airlift Family and Erin and Lois's families, we also morn your loss and will remember you also in our thoughts and prayers. The life of service you have undertaken bonds our work and our lives, and we grieve with you.

Three years removed from the air medical community does not lessen the impact I feel associated with this tragic loss. I knew Steve and admired the strength he showed by returning to flight after a previous brush with death. He was committed to providing assistance to others, knowing that there were risks.

To each of you who put yourselves in harms way each day to provide care to others, I say thank you. To these three heroes, I say rest well and know you made a difference. For all who feel the pain of this loss, I ask that you remember their lives with happiness and smile when you think of them. Steve, Erin, and Lois have earned a precious spot in Heaven and now watch over us in a different way.

May God bless each of you, guide you through your missions and keep you safe.
