Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I send me.

This is dedicated to the memory of
Bill, Scott and Jim
We will always love you and miss you!

You Left Too Soon

You left to soon this hot summer day.
You flew in the sky,
But who knew you would stay.
Our hearts they are broken.
Our “why” questions unanswered
You took your smile,
You took your kindness
You left to soon
Now what are we to do
But look to the sky where
We know you flew
In the sky your face we will see
For I know you are watching
Over all of us, you see
You left to soon and
At God’s door you were met
Your smile so big for
You knew you were home
No pain did you feel,
No fear in your heart
You left to soon
You left us behind but in
Our hearts you will stay and
Your smile will guide us each and
Every day!

My condolences to the families of Scott, Bill, and Jim, and their friends and co-workers in this tragic loss. It takes dedicated people that make sacrifices and to risk their lives to save others. I had the privilage of working with Scott Hyslop when he was working for Fallon Ambulance and I can honestly say that I have never worked with a more professional, caring individual. Words cannot express my sadness on his passing and my thoughts and prayers are on his family. The one good thought is he died in his beloved mountains doing something he loved. It will be up to his family and friends to let Dylan know what an exceptional person his dad was.

It is with great sadness that I write this. I had the privilege of knowing these wonderful men as their cheif flight nurse for a while. We all know the dangers every time we get in the aircraft but we truly believe it will not happen to us. Their dedication to the mission, the patients, the community, and their company have cost them and their families the highest price. My prayers are with their families and the TSCF family in their time of sadness. Everyone should carry their wings close to their hearts each time we enter the sky. God bless them and their families.

My prayers and thoughts will be with the families of Jim Saler, William Podmayer and Scott Hyslop for many days and years to come. The ones who seem to suffer the most are here on earth and our friends and family help us through each and every day to heal and move on with our life. At times it may seem difficult, but just knowing that God is with us makes it so much better and knowing that all of our friends are sending prayers and well wishes our way give us the chance to heal some and be part of their life. We have lost some very wonderful people and as long as they are in our thoughts they will still be with us. May God Bless each and every one that reads this message and Lord please look over the family in their time of need.

The world lost three beautiful people. I cannot imagine losing someone as young as any of these men were. Thank you so much for your sacrifice...letting your husband and father do the kind of work he did so that others could live. It is the ultimate sacrifice. Being a survivor of cancer and a major car accident, I have the utmost respect for people like Jim, Scott, ,Pod", and others in the medical field that provide help to others in need. I was fortunate enough to know "Pod" and would have counted myself lucky to know Jim or Scott as well.

As a fairly recent Tri-State CareFlight patient (April 19), I am further humbled by the care I received from everyone at Mercy Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital and Tri-State. When I ponder the risks taken by Jim, Scott, Bill and all the others on flight crews to ensure the well being of others, I can scarcely take it in. Especially when I was one of those “others”. My prayers are with each and every one of you as we mourn this tremendous loss.

My very good friend and comrade, Lisa Bourne, said it best. We are all very devastated and grieving the loss of our friends, our co-workers and neighbors of Tri-State Care Flight of Durango. We live in the same community even though we fly for a different flight services. It was horrific for us to fly over the crash site shortly afterwards and still carry on the mission they were initially dispatched to. We at SJRMC Air Care are family and feel your loss. It is our loss too. Bill, Scott & Jim, I was in the ER when you found the 14 year old drowning victim in Farmington, NM, the same day just an hour before you were taken from us. I will never forget this tragic day. We love you and will always miss you, from the bottom of our hearts. We are honored to know you and your team.

There are no adequet words to say how deeply this tragedy has touched all of us. A few of us are given the privelege of knowing great people. Fewer still will ever know people of the caliber of Jim, Scott and Bill. Those closest to them have a mandate to teach the children of these men just how special they were. For the rest of us, we are given the duty of filling the void left in the wake of their passing. Pick up the standard, raise the bar. Live as they did.
Mourne our loss, they were rare indeed.
Rejoyce for having known them.
Be thankfull to their families for shareing them with us.
Take heart, for they did what they loved.

My prayers are with you at this time. I knew Bill from working with him at the hospital. He was a great nurse and he taught me a lot about being a good nurse. He will forever remain in my prayers as will you and your family. I will always remember our last meeting at the 2005 CSEC conference and the funny song he sang about being a nurse at the dance. One of our Weld County paramedics wrote a great poem as a gift to our ER staff when we lost our friend and coworker, Jenny Wells, on the Yampa Valley flight. I found it yesterday and wanted to share it you.

We have a common bond
A silver lining that binds each heart
It unites us in the end and teaches a brand new start

We've each experienced heartbreak
Like a rushing river's flow
We've felt such tears of sorrow
And we become afraid to just let go

Overwhelmed by such grief
That reveal great aches in our soul
Wondering why love hurts so much
As we lose our sense of whole

Our sunny days become cloudy
Our nights bring on a chill
We pray for a bright tomorrow
As we try to get over that hill

We try to stay busy
Busy enough to forget our pain
And put that smile upon our face
And wonder if we're insane

We understand each other
Without ever saying a word
And with one small touch
We know that we were heard

I'm grateful you have a loving family
In whom you can rely
I'm happy you have someone
To hold you when you cry

I'm grateful to the Lord
That in His love we can depend
And I pray for each of you daily
That your hearts will truly mend

Although our lives have changed
And the pain will somewhat subside
I'm truly grateful for this group
With hugs and support to be your guide

This thread that bind our hearts
A bond that will not fray
I thank you all for sharing
In your special way

My words so small I give as a gift
To this group so proud and strong

Courage. Courage and Passion for what they did are the best words to describe the Care Flight crew that perished. Courageous are the families, friends and co-workers left behind that allowed these men to serve the community and save others lives. I was a co-worker of Bill and his wife Judy (an ER Nurse), and met Scott and Jim when we were setting up the program. I will always remember the day I met Bill and he described his wife as the one with the wonderful , heartwarming laugh in the ER. His love was evident. Scott was so enthusiastic when setting up the program. He set the bar at nothing short of excellence for himself and the rest of the crew. My heart and prayers are with you all.

My heart goes out to the remaining medical crew and pilots at Tri-State Careflight. Almost one year ago 7-13-04 our hospital family felt your pain when we lost our first helicopter N503MT only after 14 months of service and three wonderful and dedicated friends and co-workers. The pain is so severe, sometimes it's hard to even catch your breath but you must more forward, go back to work everyday and know that they are there with you and that they died doing what they loved to do. Soon I will be marrying a flight medic and I pray everyday for his safety and all the air medical crews in the country. Keep your heads up high and know that when you get back in the sky that there will always be three angels flying right above you keeping you safe, just like our crew Giard, Glenda, and J.R. do when our "new" helicopter flies. My deepest sympathy and prayers will be with you during this extremely painful time in your lives. May God bless you.

Durango is such a close-knit, wonderful, loving community. I feel so fortunate to have been born a raised right there, where you all were able to be up until your last day on earth. They call it God's country for a reason. But it is with thick tears that I fill at this block for the second time in less than one year, last being when New Mexico lost a team in California. Now only three and half hours North, the pain strikes again. Every time we board a flight, we express the importance of making it home to our own loved ones and children. I know they all wanted to come home to you again too. We know we risk our lives to save the lives of others. We will continue to do so, but now under the watchful eyes of our three newest angels. I am so sorry for your loss, Durango's loss, and the loss to our flight team community. I pray for the families, children, and co-workers left behind. Please God give us the strength to continue to do what we do and fly again.

Bill,Scott, & Jim
Even now I can not believe your gone. Even after standing in the that quiet medow surounded by trees that remain silent to the tradgedy they witnessed that sad day. Jim, I will mis you fatherly counsel. You were dedicated to your country, your family, and to us & I thank you. Scott, with a smile I remember how you alwas talked about flying , sking, or other outdoor activities with such a zeal for life, but that all changed when you became a father, then all you talked about was your son. You were a good & proud father. Bill, I can not express how much I will miss your smile & laugh & how you could turn just another day into a great adventure. I miss you all. You without a doubt made a difference in every life you touched and in your memory you will continue to make a difference.
They shall grow old not,
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them. by Laurence Binyon English Poet.
Is the risk worth the price? We will always have the memory of Bill, Scott, & and Jim in front of us & we know how they would have answered. YES the answer would have always been yes. We will continue on for them and for those who call in need, we will answer that call and make that difference.

Words cannot begin to describe how saddened I am by the loss of Jim, Scott, and Bill. I am so proud of what each and every one of you do on a daily basis...it makes such a difference. Not only do I worry about my loved one who has had the priviledge of flying with all of you, I keep each of you in my thoughts on a daily basis...every day I say a prayer for the entire crew that you will all be safe. Thank you for what you do. Unfortunately, I never had the honor of meeting Bill, and I regret that. However, I did know Jim and Scott, and I am thankful for that. While I only had the opportunity to be around Jim and Scott briefly on my visits to Durango, I feel like I know all three so well because of the way they were spoken of to me. I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight
On the ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.
My Spirit is still alive…

My thoughts and prayers to Dr. Stamper and the entire CareFlight family. There are no words to express the grief that we share with you. There are three new angels that will be there to guide the rest of us.

Jeff Rust PA-C (former flight medic)
Western Arizona Regional Medical Center - Bullhead City, AZ

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of our fellow flight teams. It is so hard to hear of and deal with and continue to leave our family and friends day to day after something like this happens. However, these three men would want everyone to continue on doing the jobs they love, flight medicine. My prayers are with all of their families and friends.

Christine Porter, BSN, CFRN

We hate to see another fallen group to our family of aeromedical professionals. You are heroes in every definition of the word, and we respect your life, and your life's work. Only aeromedical crews understand that everytime they go up, they endure a risk, but if we can help, then great for mankind. We will miss you, but you will never be forgotten for the ultimate sacrifice you and your family has made.

Mike Patterson
Sierra Lifeflight - Bishop, CA

Jim, Bill, and Scott were not known to me, but I know this of them… Anyone that chooses this profession has a passion to render care to those in need. The dedication and commitment of these three heroes will never be forgotten. God has called upon three angels… And they will forever be, three, of our many “angels in flight.” In memory of ALL those who were lost.

To the family, friends and co-workers alike… Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

God bless you and all those surrounding.

The men and families of this tragedy will be in our thoughts and prayers, even as we climb skyward tomorrow, doing what they would want us to continue, without interruption. Scott, Bill and Jim, may you soar with the eagles forever. How many people get to do the job they love? Jim, thank you for your dedicated service to the ems world and our country, you are a true hero. Scott, I can not tell you how many times I would roll up on an injury crash and see you there and know it is going to be okay. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the crew members and families of the the crew members that lost their lives.

With the loss of our crewmember March 21, 2004, we know your pain and the heartache that each of you are going through at this time. It is reassuring to know that your friends, coworkers, and loved ones passed on doing what they loved.

Being on a medic on an EMS flight service, we go up knowing that it could happen to us.....not always remembering to tell our family and friends how important they are to us. We all take so much forgranted and forget to share our feelings with the ones we love the most.

We know how each of you feel - but we know that Micky and Paul were awaiting your loved ones preparing the way with open arms.

In memory of Carestar Crew Members Micky Price and Paul Lujan #N502MT - We love and miss you both!

The Air Medical Crew community took a collective gasp when the tragedy of the Tri-State Careflight was being announced.

Our hearts are heavy with grief and sorrow as we now realized that we have, yet again, lost three fine people belonging to our unique profession.

After having lost three close friends in the July 13, 2004 - Regional One (N503MT) crash, we are reminded of the pain that you are now suffering.

We go back to work each day, knowing that the crew that perished in our crash, as well as with other services in the past, died doing what they did best...Caring for the sick and injured.

May God be with the surviving medical crew as well as with the families of those lost at Tri-State Careflight and Mercy Medical Center crash. My sincerest condolences to you...

Once again the Air Medical Community has experienced a tragedy of loss of life. My heart aches as I worked with and cared for Bill, Scott and Jim. We must not allow this to keep us from carrying out our mission of caring for the critically ill and injured patients, just as they were doing. We all do this because we love the job and can only go on with hope in our hearts that we can have the strength to continue on. There are no words of consolation and never will be for such a tremendous loss, so we must support each other and carry on with Jim, Bill and Scott in our hearts. I know that no words can provide real comfort. I am deeply pained and saddened at this loss to the Saler, Podmayer, and Hyslop families, and to our community. This is something we should never get used to, even while knowing that the work we do is, for most of us, a trust and privilege greater than the pain we sometimes endure. My condolences go out to these families. I have deep respect for those who work these flights. You took very good care of my husband once and were very reassuring to me as well. Thank you to those who are still on the job. You are very much appreciated!

Once again I sit in front of my computer with a heavy heart. In times like this it's diffacult to express the feeling of loss, while I did not know the crew personally the loss is no less painfull. To the family and friends of our fallen heros me and my family wish to extend our sincere condolences. ( The Crews Family)

The blackened screen brings such a flood of emotions for me. Knowing that someone is getting the news I once got. Knowing that a husband won't come home to his wife and a dad won't come home to his kids. Knowing what the families and friends are now facing - the disbelief, the shock and the unimaginable grief. I wish there were words of comfort I could offer, anything to ease your sorrow and your pain. Please know that your loved ones made a difference and that their lives mattered. They will not be forgotten.

My heartfelt condolences to the Saler, Podmayer, and Hyslop families, as well as to the entire 'family' at Tri-State CareFlight.

P.S. To the families of these brave men - if there is anything I can do or if you ever need somone to talk to, I can be reached at TodderNV@hotmail.com
