I want to thank each and everyone of you for your kind words. Jana was my sister-in-law and I have know her since she was 9 years old. I watched her grow into the wonderful woman you all knew, the wonderful women who loved her job, the people she worked with and Neil the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. There will never be enough words to express how thankful we are to each honor gaurd who stood by her side and never left her alone, each kind word and prayer said to and for us her family, to each of you who cried with us as we said good bye. But please know we take such comfort in knowing she was part of such a outstanding group of people. Thank you all for the work you do everyday and the lives you save. God Bless you and your families.
Jana Bishop gone but never forgotten
I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU VERY MUCH!

Jana's Sister-In-Law - Spring, TX
It was my great honor and pleasure to have been a part of the procession of emergency vehicles taking Jana home from Dallas to The Woodlands. The show of support from all the FDs, PDs, EMS and hospital staff that lined the roadside in honor of our fallen sister showed to me that what these heros did for a living did indeed make a difference and that people did appriciate them. As much of an honor as it was for me to be a part of it hope I never have to do it again, however, should it happen I'll be more than happy to show my support for the ill fate of that future hero. It was incredible to see everyone who never knew these people or even what they did but still pulled over and got out of thier vehicle to show their support.
I never knew you but trust me when I say I'll never forget you!

The untimely death of friends and family members is always so difficult, when they die in the line of duty--something you know they loved--it takes another twist. "It could have been me" is an unfortunately familiar statement to those in programs who have lost an aircraft and crew. It's incredibly tragic to all, and something one never gets over---you just learn to live with it.
Carrying on the mission is the best way to honor your (our) fallen comrades, learning from what happened will benefit everyone, and maybe someday...there really can be "vision zero".
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire EMS community and the PHI teams during this period of loss. The smiles will return, the laughter will come back, and no doubt, there are great memories of all of the lost crew and patient that will keep them alive in everyone's hearts forever.

There was a memorial service for our Hero's in Bryan,Tx June 11, 2008. It was the most incredible event I have ever seen. The families and freinds of Med 12 would like to thank all those that came to honor them. And special thanks to KBTX News, they have put the entire Service on their website for those wishing to honor them and were not able to attend.

The medic stood and faced God.
Which must always come to pass.
She hoped his uniform was clean,
She'd gotten dressed kinda fast.
"Step forward now, paramedic.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The medic squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't,
cause those of us who wade in blood,
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was tough.
And at times I've been violent,
cause the streets are awful rough.
But I never took a penny
that wasn't mine to keep...
although I worked alot of overtime,
when the bills got far too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
except to calm their fears.
If you have a place for me, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I undestand."
There was silence all around the throne,
where saints had often trod.
As there medic waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, paramedic.
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on heavens streets.
You've done your time in hell."
Erich Leeder

A new life had just entered the world and I held her in my arm
And I made a silent promise to try my best to keep her safe from harm
With big blue eyes that would set any new dad's heart aglow
Never realizing as I looked at her how quickly my little angel would grow...
I would watch her care for her dolls...a game she would often play
And listen as she would tell them that she was there and they were going to be OK
A child's game of pretend which she would play just for fun
But as time went by I began to see that she would become one of God's chosen one...
To give her all to those in need who's life may suddenly end
An angel of mercy to a dying soul...a special person God has send
Risking it all...not for glamour that so many yearn to gain
But simply because of their love of others and to help to ease their pain...
I can no longer protect her as she crawls inside a mangled wreck
To stabilize and rescue someone who may possibly have a broken neck
Or be with her as she holds an infant who will never again see the sun
For now my little angel is not playing with dolls and this is no longer a game or fun...
Each time I hear her roll on a 911 in my heart I silently pray
That God will be by her side and keep her safe another day
For He has called her and she has answered to be one of the best
She is now "your little angel"...an angel of mercy with the EMS...

Words just fail at a time like this. There is just nothing that anyone can say to take away the pain and hurt for the family, friends and especially fellow crew who are left behind, who must now gather themselves up and carry on. Having been just through this a month ago with our own tragedy on May 10th, many of us know first hand the emotions and pain, the sting of tears that come unexpectedly, but also the comfort of knowing that there are others in our now closer knit community that are standing with you. That did provide some measure of comfort. We at the UW MedFlight program know what it feels like, and stand with you in this very difficult time.

Every day in our profession, we are faced with the unexpected, the things that fill our hearts or bring us to our knees. On Saturday evening, I experienced both. I was fortunate enough to witness this flight crew at their finest as they brought a young victim of drowning to our ED. The care and love that this crew always conveyed was especially apparent this night. Stephanie and Jana were so loving towards this child! I just remember thinking that if I had to send my love one on a helicopter, I would want them to be with them!
I will miss their compassion, committment and most of all I will miss their smiles. Please know that they touched all our of our lives here in some special way!

I can't describe the feeling in my heart when I see Flightweb blacked out in memory of another dedicated flight crew that was lost. The people who do this job are some of the bravest, most dedicated, and selfless people within the medical community. I feel such sadness at the loss of PHI's flight nurse, medic, and pilot. I am in such awe of the people who make this their job. I remember the feeling of loss after the crash of Tristate Careflight's Durango crew almost 3 years ago. I hate that anybody would experience that same feeling. My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and fellow crew members of the three angels who were lost on Sunday. I also offer my condolences and prayers to the family of Mr. Disman.
HOPI PRAYER of The Soul's Graduation:
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight
On the ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.
My Spirit is still alive…

How saddened I am to hear, once again, of a Medical helicopter crash that has taken the lives of very special people. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the families, fellow team members and friends of Jana, Stephanie and Wayne.
We, too, went through this one month ago when UW MedFlight went down with my brother, Mark Coyne RN, Dr. Darren Bean and pilot, Steve Lipperer on board.
I would like to share with you what helped me the most.
Reading the postings on this website and sharing stories with family, Mark's team members at MedFlight, co-workers at Madison Area Technical College and the many EMS people he taught and worked with. As we shared stories and rememberances with each other, we all began the healing process.

So really there are not words that can be said to ease anyone's pain right now. Only time will help with that. I do believe though there is something to be learned from every situation. I have been reminded just how precious life is. So I am choosing to celebrate life! I also intend to tell the people I love just how much I love them a bit more often, hug them just a little bit tighter, and learn to let the petty things go. Those that have left us will be missed dearly. May God bless the families of the fallen and as for the rest of us I hope we can all come together and be as supportive as possible. Luv u guys!

To the family and friends of PHI Med 12 my thoughts and prayers are with you. So many times we are asked by family, friends and patients why we do the job that we do; and I truly believe that God has called those chosen few to do His work in the field of Emergency Medicine/Emergency Medical Services. Those of us in this field truly love and have a desire to be doing the work that we are doing and could not think of anything in this world that we would rather be doing than helping those in need and being a witness for Christ. It is truly a priviledge to be there when a life is brought into this world if only to hold that tiny hand and comfort that baby while it is taking its first breath of life; and it is also truly a priviledge to be with those when they leave this world if only to be able to hold their hand and tell them that it is ok to go....and to God I thank Him everyday for blessing me with this priviledge. Although I did not know Jana, Stephanie or Wayne, I am sure that they all three had the same desire to be able to make a difference in someones life if only for a split second. May each day become a little easier for their families knowing that they are in heaven watching over us. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. With Deepest Sympathy.....

This profession that we all share is a most blessed of callings. Even though we all know the risks time and time again we take those risks and place our trust in God to do the job that we love. Although I did not know the Med 12 crew I take their loss as well as the loss of any HEMS crew member very personally. I am the father of a crew member who, as the Med 12 crew, loves her job, yet only thinks of the dangers when one of these tragic events occur.
To the family and friends of Jana, Stephanie and Wayne may the fond memories of your loved ones help you to get through this. To the HEMS family, every time that you fly to the aid of the sick or injured, you are heroes. May our respect and love for you all provide some solace. Last of all, to those who knew loved David Disman always remember that those heroes that lost their lives along with David were doing everything with in their power to comfort him and to save his life.
God bless you all and please accept my heart felt condolences.

Oh, how sad. We have had difficulty coming up with something appropriate to say -- especially after reading the comments -- they bring tears to our eyes. I guess no words are ever appropriate. We just can't get this tragedy off our minds.
What we do know is that these fine, wonderful people had a calling -- a calling by the Good Lord -- to serve others. And Saturday, who would have known that this last earthly flight would be a flight to heaven? He called them home to their eternal reward. Well done, my faithful servants, well done! Enter into the joy of thy Lord.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to everyone in the community of medical service and especially to the family, friends, and associates of these fine people. We grieve with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

With two family members who have logged many hours in medical aircraft I realize how close the EMS community is. My prayers go out not only for the PHI Air 12 crew and family but to all of you who risk your lives daily for humanity. As a former Fire Chief I remember that reassuring feeling seeing a medical helicopter on the horizon approaching the scene of a tragity. We often take for granted what you do, it is so sad it takes a tragedy like the crash of PHI Air 12 to remind us of your daily sacrifices.
Jana, Stephanie and Wayne rest in peace.

Having heard the news of the tragic accident to befall the crew and the passenger of the PHI Air Medical helicopter flight on Sunday, June 8, 2008, may I wish the friends, families and work colleagues of those who lost their lives the deepest condolences of the Stevenson family in Belfast.
Having a friend who is in the same line of duty as an EMS attendant on another Texas flight rescue service, this story is all the more touching and gives us thanks that this event is indeed a rare occasion.
Our family thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this terrible tragedy. God is good and may he wrap you all in His warm embrace at this sad time. May His Love guide you in your hour of need.
May God Bless you all.

As I shared my time with the PHI family today, I felt honored and blessed to be considered a part of the "family." My tears are with their tears and my sorrow is with their sorrow. There are no words to express the loss that we all have in our hearts.
Today was such a beautiful day and as we were all together in the hanger of Med 12 God revealed himself to Jane Webb and myself. We were blessed to see a single eagle soaring over the hanger to the west of Med 12's base. This eagle soared there for about 2 minutes. He rose and fell with the winds and moved closer to the Med 12 base. He dipped down and rose up. I knew we were given a sign from our loved ones and was reminded of Isaiah 40:29-31.....
"He gives power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increases their strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary and the young men shall utterly fall: BUT
they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint."
As we continue in this journey without our colleagues......allow these words to strengthen each of us and remind us of the strength we have in each other!!!!!!!!

It is so difficult to express how I feel right now. Two weeks ago my father, who was the pilot in the Aero Med crash on May 29, was spared his life and then a week later I'm mourning a friend who passed away in the same manner. How do you rejoice and mourn at the same time? To the crew of PHI Med 12 you and your families are in my prayers! To my friend Jana-You always stayed constant. You loved whole-heartedly and you were loved in return! I never knew someone that I could go months or even years not seeing but the minute I saw you I would light up! You brought joy to the lives you came in contact with and you are missed dearly! You will never be forgotten.

We have all been there when that awful news was delivered to the loved ones of those just lost so many times, delivering the news ourselves, sometimes at the end of a vailant effort by rescuers. But now, it is the rescuers who have been lost, more heroes lost.
For those of us who have "answered the call", be it climbing on board that aircraft, riding a bus or engine, shotgun in a squad car, or our family members waiting in the ER for us to arrive with a dying patient, we wouldn't change it. Jenna, Wayne, and Stephanie will not get the chance to get back on that helicopter, but I'll bet if they could, they would. That's what heroes do.
To the heroes of Air Med 12, to their families, the their air medical families, for all the crews that worked with them and the crews of all families who have suffered the ultimate loss in this family of providers, this family of heroes, know that what you do will never be in vain, for they will always be honored. I hope that through time, the prayers and blessings of so many around you and throughout the Air Medical and EMS communities, you find comfort and healing.
God Bless the family and crew of Air Med 12 and all of our brothers and sisters.
Godspeed home, Jenna, Stephanie, and Wayne.

When we hear of the loss of one of our family members, we all feel the pain and heartache that comes along with it. When we hear of the loss of three and the patient that they literally put their lives on the line to protect and help, we feel it even deeper. As paramedics and nurses, we all put our lives on the line and our families in an anxious state of mind because there is never a guarantee that we will make it through the shift. But we do it anyway. We do it for our fellow man, we do it because it is what we were all called to do. And we do it proudly. I am very proud that these three performed their duties to the end. They were all part of us and our family. They will be greatly missed... both by their families left behind, their EMS families, and by the patients that they helped over the years. God Speed.

I was stunned to hear the news of another downed aircraft and the tragic premature loss of Jana, Stephanie, and Wayne. Everyone who knows them must be appalled and heartbroken at the loss of these bright and wonderful people. It is truly a great loss when something like this happens. I used to serve on a fire department and have had the privilege to work with excellent flight crews who have saved countless lives over the years. "PRECIOUS FEW"
The wind upon our face, is often brisk and cold.
It's not always the weather, but the plight beyond control.
God surely saw a need, for the work we're pursuing.
His words echo gently, "Be not weary in well doing."
Time waits for no one, desperately we fight;
To beat the golden hour, do our job and do it right.
Sacrifice has no limit, self must be denied.
Praise does not exist, and patience has been tried.
Weakness becomes strength, courage replaces fear.
Exhaustion is forgotten, when we feel His presence near.
Prayer is our greatest tool, and first on every call.
Without God, the stumbling blocks, would surely make us fall.
In a troubled world, which we must live, there's only a 'precious few,'
Who are capable and willing, to give the way we do.
God took the best and made a team, to lend a helping hand.
He needed us to be the ones, with footprints in the sand.

As I was driving home this morning I could not help but think of the tragedy that occurred yesterday. My heart aches not only for those lost but for their families and friends. I and my family offer our heartfelt condolences to you. May God grant you grace, peace and mercy in this time of grief.
While whispering a prayer for you this morning I heard these lyrics:
When the long road ends
We will rest for a while
We'll hold our hands and
We'll share a smile.
When we both look back
Over where we've been
We will have no regrets
When the long road ends.
Rest well Med12. Thank you for smiling, laughing and serving with us.

I wish I had words that would ease the pain of such a loss, but nothing I can say will take the pain you all are feeling away. I can only express my deepest sorrow at the needless loss of our comrades in flight. On behalf of the Legacy Emanuel Children’s Transport Team, I would like to extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of those lost. It is rare that someone gets to work in a job that they truly have a passion for and it is always sad when a co-worker or friend dies in the line of duty, but it is important to remember that not only they were doing what they loved, but that the world is a better place because of their efforts. Our hearts go out to the entire PHI team, the friends, co-workers and families and loved ones of our fallen colleagues lost in this tragic event. Please know you are all in our thoughts. Stephanie, Jana and Wayne’s passion and dedication will be missed by everyone.

I remember Jana when she was still a senior in high school working at Randalls. She never lost her sweet and innocent way. Jana was one of the kindest people I have ever met. I was fortunate to be able to watch her grow from an EMT to Paramedic To RN to Flight Nurse - she always remained the same "Jana".
Its hard to grieve the loss of any air medical crew, but its much harder when it hits this close to home.

I was saddened to hear of the loss of PHI's crew and patient this weekend. We all take for granted the jobs that they and others like them perform because they do it so well with so few accidents. When one happens, it reminds us just how dangerous each work day is for them and that they put their lifes on the line for other people every time that they go up.
I wish I had something profound to say that would ease their family and friends pain right now but I don’t. I do believe however, that God takes care of those who take care of other people. This crew is now under his care and will be rewarded for their unselfish deeds and services to others.

I am so saddened to hear about this horrible loss. I did not know any of the people who died, but yet my heart aches. My brother flies for AeroCare out of Lubbock, so when I heard the news of a copter crash, I immediately had to find out who was involved. Of course, my heart stopped beating until I found he was not among the victims, but yet the tears are still flowing for those who did perish. I know how I felt while just waiting to find names, it was not pleasant, so I can only imagine how those who actually lost loved ones must feel right now. My heart goes out to all of you. I have been in the medical profession going on 40 years now and have seen a lot of suffering and death...each time though it hurts even more. I will keep each person we have lost and all their families in my prayers, always. God will watch over them now, they are safe as these 4 angels spread their wings and fly....

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred things
You have not dreamt of -- wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand - touched the face of God

How does one express their grief & sense of loss at a time like this?? Each of these people have made this world a better place as evidenced by the outpouring of love & respect shown here. I only knew Jana. I worked with her on the ambulance as she was going through nursing school. She then encouraged me as I did the same. I worked with her at the hospital as well. My deepest sympathies are offered to the friends and family of these 3 heroes. No words can relieve the sorrow brought about by the loss of the PHI Med 12 crew. Each of us in the air medical transport community feels this loss deeply and we mourn with you. I will pray that God will grant each of you the strength to get through this difficult period and will ask that He keep each of you in His light and love. May Wayne, Stephanie, and Jana be honored for the service they provided and may they be remembered fondly by all who were touched by their lives.

To the families, friends, and colleagues of Wayne, Jana, & Stephanie, I know this pain you feel firsthand. Having recently lost my husband, closest friend, and a colleague in the 5/10/08 UW MedFlight crash, my soul aches for you and your loss. There are no words, but please know that across the miles, my thoughts are with you. There are many people enjoying their lives today because they were fortunate enough to be touched by the specialness of Wayne, Jana, and Stephanie.
