I sit here stunned. This wasn't a war casualty. It wasn't a natural disaster. It was an ordinary day during an ordinary week in which five individuals were doing what they did best. Their chosen career. Saving lives and comforting the sick and injured. These people are forever heroes. So many peoples lives have been turned upside down by this tragedy. My heart goes out to the family, friends and co-workers of both air crews and their patients. May you somehow find comfort during this upheaval of your lives. While you mourn their loss, try and remember to celebrate their lives. Never forget that they will always be watching over you. May your God be with you all. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

To my Air Methods family, our hearts out here in California are breaking with yours. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. I wish I had words that would ease the pain of such a loss, but nothing I can say will take the pain you all are feeling away. I can only express my deepest sorrow at the needless loss of our comrades in flight. I would like to extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of those lost. It is rare that someone gets to work in a job that they truly have a passion for and it is always sad when a co-worker or friend dies in the line of duty, but it is important to remember that not only they were doing what they loved, but that the world is a better place because of their efforts. Our hearts go out to the entire Guardian team, the friends, co-workers and families and loved ones of our fallen colleagues lost in this tragic event. Please know you are all in our thoughts. Pat and Shawn’s passion and dedication will be missed by everyone.

    "Just Call On Me
I can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel
For the loss of someone you love.
This sorrowful time must still feel unreal
And you’re looking for strength from above.

I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease,
That your spirit will gain strength again,
And I pray that your faith will create inner peace
And that God will send blessings--Amen.

Till then, if you need me to lighten your load,
I’m waiting to come to your aid.
Just call on me, and I’ll walk down that road,
Until the dark times start to fade."

I'll always smile and remember the great welcome mat Pat rolled out on the FMC helipad each time our flight crew came in to drop off a patient (especially that afternoon you and Mark had us laughing about stories from the old Lifenet days!) Shawn, never got a chance to buy that beer we owe you, but hopefully some of your crewmates will be willing to collect in your honor.

Thanks for your friendship, gentlemen, even if it was only for a short while. For all of our Guardian friends, please know you aren't alone. Our thoughts and prayers also to Mr. Zest's family.

Words can not express how I feel. I have lost friends and family. I had the honour of working with Pat and Shawn during my career with Guardian Air in 2006. My thoughts and prayers are with my Guardian family now, they are the strongest most close knit air medical program I have ever come across. Miss Me - But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go.

For this journey that we all must take, And each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.

When we are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go.

I was shocked to learn about another medical helicopter crash while I was on shift yesterday. There have been too many in such a short amount of time. I hope that everyone can find peace in knowing that these crews were living their dreams. Having recently lost a friend in a med chopper crash, it brings back a lot of the feelings that I thought i was finally getting over. We (in the EMS community) put others lives before ours every day, and I hope that those of us still on this Earth can learn to live each day to the fullest because we know all too well that each day may be our last. God speed, Angel 1, you will be forever in my heart. Blue skies forever
