Re: air medical helicopters in a disaster situation
Lisa,
I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Emergency Management and this topic has been an interest of mine. This past week I presented this topic at a International Emergency Management conference and found air medical helicopters are not routinely used. There is no documentation to support the inclusion of critical care transport programs into emergency management. I am in the process of developing a survey to attempt to capture this data. In the course of my research I did not find a great amount of information. There is a FAA document you can look at: Integrating Helicopter and Tilt rotor Assets into Disaster Relief Planning (http://www1.faa.gov/avr/afs/acs/00-59.txt). This may help you. I hope to have some raw data after the first of the year, maybe that will be some help to you. If you would like a copy of the paper I wrote on this topic let me know and I can e-mail it to you.
John
