Re: ER 11/20 HELICOPTER CRASH

I confess to mild curiousity as to the degree of blind faith and summary
assumption to the practice of medicine each episode of Marcus Welby, MD elicited.

While it's true that there is a small segment of our society who will
faithfully believe ANYTHING they see in a TV show (I'm not talking about newsmagazine
shows, such as 60 Minutes or Dateline), it's equally true that the very same
segment of society would rather believe what they see in a fictional drama
than they would any FACTS that you might present. Those same folks are usually
the ones who believe that professional wrestling is a real test of athletic
skill. They also believe that Elvis is still alive and in hiding somewhere.

What surprises me is the degree of "Monday Morning Quarterbacking" that you,
trained medical professionals all, seem to be doing as to the probable causes
of the "accident" on the most recent episode of ER.

I can alleviate a your debate by giving you the absolute facts of the causes
of the accident. I'm kind of surprised that none of you seem to have figured
this out for yourselves.

The cause of the accident was:

The WRITERS of the show believed a helicopter crash would add a heretofore
under examined aspect of DRAMA to the episode and would probably boost the
ratings a bit.

THAT is the SOLE cause of the "accident".

I'm still amazed that so MANY of you somehow managed to read ANYTHING else
into it.

I really thought you were all more mature and professional than that.

Fly safe, M
