IMHO I think the incident was appropriate.  Like me, I am sure all of you who watch ER on a regular basis have taken issue with some "technical error" they have made, but all in all I feel the show has done a good job of realistically showing both the good and bad sides of emergency medicine.  I am glad to see a show that shows the lay public that our profession is not always perfect as has been portrayed on other shows such as Rescue 911.  Even my old favorite, "Emergency" always seemed to have a happy ending.  (although I must admit that at the time of Emergency, happy ending's were needed to gain public support of our profession during it's infancy.)  Just over a year ago a tragic accident took 3 of my co-workers and my family got a reality check regarding the dangers of my line of work.  Because of this my wife choose not to watch it and we agreed that our children wouldn't watch it either.  My oldest who is 9 was aware of the past accident when it occurred and we spent many hours talking about it then so I did not feel that he needed to see it on TV.  I did watch the show, and while it was a gut wrenching site, I feel they portrayed the incident as well as such a terrible thing could have been done.  I agree with Rollie that this is a good opportunity to discuss an issue that is rarely discussed but I am surprised that such discussion has not taken place before as this is not the first air medical accident the show has portrayed.
