Re: ER 11/20 HELICOPTER CRASH
I watched the show last night and had huge knots in the pit of my stomach
while watching the Bell 206 fall out of the sky. I think that the autorotation
and hard landing and falling on its left side with rotor bits flying everywhere
was a very realistic portrayal of what could happen. The helo falling off of
the building and exploding was a bit "Hollywood".
My husband and I both fly and the show did open a lot of discussion between
us. I think that Rollie's suggestion to use this portrayal as a drill for
discussion is very good. Perhaps some of our pilots could add their two cents as
to what happened, how it could have been avoided and what the crew should do
during the crash sequence.
I can't wait to go into the ER tonight for my shift and hear what comments my
co-workers in that department will make.
Fly safe all, and I look forward to some intelligent and thought-provoking
discussions.
