Hi Loyd,
We utilize 3 BK117's and do quite a bit of scene work. The RN and PARA sit
in the aft facing cabin seats to and from the scene (or hospital), we open
doors each time we land once we reach a speed below 60 knots and secure the
cabin, and then clear on our respective sides for obstacles and hazards. We open
doors for scenes, hospital pads, and refueling landings, neither crew member
sits copilot at any time. Having both doors open and both crew looking and
clearing the tail and main rotors has prevented several potential incidences and
property damage on landing as well as identifying crowd control problems.
This system works well for us, hope this helps some.

Tracy and all:

Part of the work of the Do Bee group for the Air Medical Leadership Congress
was a thorough literature review on as many aspects of the industry as we
could find. Dr. Frank Thomas or anyone else who attended the Congress should
be able to hook you up. You can contact Frank at ldfthoma@ihc.com.

Hi All,

I am trying to find valid journal articles that support the use of air
medical transport (fixed wing and rotor wing). If any one knows of an
article,
please email me back off the Archive.

Thanks,

Uncferret@aol.com

All,

I've been tasked with writing a continuing education article the ASTNA
education committee. The topic I've been given is "pharmacology".
In a effort to keep things interesting, I really hate to spend the time
reviewing
the basics such as ACLS/PALS drugs, RSI drugs, Inotropes, and
vasopressors
(although important, consensus is that the participation may be limited)

It has been suggested that I venture into some more "esoteric" drugs that
may
be encountered (or have been encountered) in/ on a given ground, rotor,
or fixed
wing situation. Some that have been suggested are: Xigris, Refludan,
Phenylephrine
IV push vs. gtt, ephedrine, lidocaine via ETT's for suctioning TBI
patients, 3% saline,
primacor vs. dobutamine, Vasopressin for sepsis, nesiritide,
..................................

I could end up writing a book on transport pharmacology, but that is not
the
immediate goal: I want to produce something meaningful. I will do all
the research
regarding indications, pitfalls, contraindications, and "what if" things
to think about.

All I need is a scenario, a "this happened to me" story, or "hey, look
this up and tell
me what I need to know". If anyone would be willing to assist me with
the direction
of this activity, It would be greatly appreciated, as well as an
acknowledgment for
your assistance

And, to reduce clogging up everyone's in-box, please respond to my
personal
email address mvojtko@juno.com I'll try to send out a summary of what
to expect
once I've compiled the information.

Thanks in advance.

If you're looking to make a valid argument supporting Air Transport to
someone who does not belive in it, I'd suggest staying away from anything
printed in Air Medical Journal. While I enjoy the literature they print, we
must admit there is a bias, and therefore the data presented is suspect
(Please... I mean no offense to my colleagues at AMJ, but the immediate
argument from the opponents of air transport would be "Of course that
journal publishes supporting data... they've got an agenda.")

My suggestions, assuming you've already done a PubMed/MedLine search
(keywords:

Flight, Helicopter, Air Medical, and Prehosptial,) would be:
