Being a NICU therapist there are very real concerns about using this modality in a confined area.
[Brault, Charles]Not wanting to belittle the potential problems of NOBut some of the confine area that WE work in are safer than most hospital roomsNamely because they have active cabin flow (nearly all the time)Thus bringing on better air exchange than nearly any hospital rooms. The scrubbers and alarm have reach a level of sophistication that it's pretty hard to get into unhealthy levels of environmental NO. Again I would be more concerned for long term exposure of healthcare givers that work with it on a regular basis in "normal" hospital rooms. Our own concern would be a catastrophic short term exposure because of an equipment malfunction or manipulation error. But most of the run of the mill leaks brought on by short intermittent disconnects brings on environmental NO levels no worse than your typical middle of traffic "city" air.Charles Brault EMT-P
