RE: Prisoner Transports

We have a written policy about transporting correctional officers.  The inmate must be restrained in 4 point restraints of some sort.  We do not allow chemical weapons such as OC10 on board.  Firearms and ammunition are secured in the front of the aircraft.
It is more difficult since we got the EC135, but we keep the co-pilot seat as well as 2 attendant seats in the rear.  The officer has to sit up front and we stress that the officer must be under 200 pounds.  Our policy stresses that we do not leave one of the medical crew behind.  Our state requires 2 medical attendants accompany a patient.   If we cannot transport the officer, arrangements have to be made at the receiving facility with local law enforcement personnel to receive the patient.
Hope this helps you.

Subject: Prisoner Transports

I'm not sure if this topic has been covered but, " what are your policies on transporting prisoners in an helicopter with limited seating?" We have three seats in our EC135, one for the pilot and two for the flightcrew.
The issues we are facing are:
Does a corrections officer have to fly with the patient?
If not, What security measures are in place at the receiving hospital?
If there isn't room for an officer to ride along should you leave a crewmember behind?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Randy
