RE: Prisoner Transports

I don’t know about the transport portion, but in Texas the corrections officer will even follow the patient to the operating room (which is a sight to see, like a prisoner is going to break out in the middle of a CABG).

In Texas, the officers travel in pairs, one of them with a firearm and one with a baton.

If there wasn’t room for an officer, I think it would be defeating the point by leaving a crew member behind.  Why lower the standards so that an officer can ride along.

If you transport prisoners frequently, I would talk to the state and figure out what their expectations are and let them know what your expectations are.  You shouldn’t have to jeopardize the crew’s safety or the patient’s.
