Re: EMT-P to RN Bridge Question

Do you have any contact numbers or a web site available?

There is good news for those who are interested in pursuit of
advancing their medical education. As was already mentioned by
another member of the listserver, The College of Health Sciences
(Roanoke, VA) has an Accelerated Paramedic to RN program. This
program leads to an ADN in 1 year (summer, fall, & spring) or can
lead to a BSN in 2 years (an additional summer, fall, & spring). All
of this is possible right now, and the program does an excellent job
of preparing medics for nursing. The program does not waste time
with issues that medics already know, but spends time ensuring
knowledge and then moving on to new skills and knowledge. For anyone
who does not have the required core classes, COHS offers many avenues
of obtaining these courses including enrollment, credit for previous
experience, and distance learning opportunities. It should be noted
that the Accelerated program is just that...it's faster, not
abbreviated. You must still acquire all of the necessary education
in order to graduate.

An even brighter note is looming on the horizon is the current talks
of creating a Paramedic to Physician Assistant Program. Patterned
much after the Paramedic to RN model, this program looks to take
medics and turn them into PAs. This is not something in the far-
distant future, but will probably occur in the next 18 months. If
you have any comments, questions, or shows of support for this new
program, please feel free to email me direct. The greater the
support, the faster change can occur.

Have fun - be safe,
