RE: EMT-P to RN Bridge Question
Having
spend 15+ years as a Paramedic and now as a Nursing Administrator/Educator I'm
afraid of "bridge" programs short changing both the student and the
profession. Depending on what your long term goals are the local community
college ADN programs are generally all you should need, If you are planning on
going farther, i.e. CRNA, you need to have a BSN and you have to go to school
for that.. The problem is that a lot of ADN programs now take 3 years to
complete. If you've already got the prereqs you can shorten that.
The other thing to watch out for is if these programs are truly bridge
programs. Some programs call themselves that but if you really compare the
normal program, you would have gotten most of the credits
anyway.
If the
individual student feels that their skills and knowledge is adequate, Excelsior
College (Regents) program already has a good track record. And I generally
don't care what school an applicant graduated from. I don't even really
care about grades much any more.
