RE: cabin heat
We had the same problem with our base in Gilroy CA flying a BO105. We did the same thing with the window a/c unit. This helped some, but with all the glass it was still hot. We ended up sewing a cover we called the "Bra". It covered the front bubble, pilot and co-pilot windows, and the green house windows on top. The combination made it really cool, like getting into fridge when the temp was 100 outside. We used Sunbrella fabric because it has a 5 year warranty against UV damage. We had several break away pannels so one person could get it off in 10sec and not damage any radio antena.
