RE: cabin heat

We did a similar thing also. Sears window unit with a flexible tubing
attached to something the mechanics came up with to fit through one of the
side windows. The temperature issue became a big one last year when we were
in an EC 135 due to the amount of glass/greenhouse effect.

Rusty,
We looked at some dedicated aircraft cooling units and they were pretty
pricey. We finally went to Sam's and bought a good size window air
conditioning unit for about $300.00. The mechanic then made an sheet
metal cover for the front to catch the cold air and that was attached to
a hose about 5 inces in diameter which went to an adapter he made to fit
to the open co-pilots window. The whole unit was mounted on a low cart
and powered by 115 VAC.
Sounds like an ugly rig but our mechanics were able to make them look
very professional. They dropped the temps dramatically in the aircraft
and worked well even in LA, TX, and FL in the summer. Not only did it
help keep the drugs at an acceptable temp, it precooled the aircraft
interior greatly, lot's less sweating!!. We probably didn't have $400.00
in parts in the whole deal.
It was left in place to the last possible minute, but could be quickly
removed.
Once we had them, no one wanted to operate without them again.
Mike
