The March 18th release of MERGINET.News is now online. Please take a moment
to check it out!

This month, we welcome a new columnist, Marc Goldstone, to our Management
Matters section. He introduces himself in a short essay, where he explains
why he can tackle the tough topics you will see in coming months. What Marc
won’t tell you is that he is a longstanding and highly respected member of
the EMS community. Welcome, Marc!

Longtime MERGINET advisor Keith Wesley, MD, begins a two-part series on the
emerging concept of selective spinal immobilization. See his article to
understand how, by applying a set of five criteria, many patients can now
avoid the pain and disruption of being backboarded. You’ll also find an
article containing interviews with ten EMS professionals on tips that can
help you in your practice of field medicine. Written by your editor, this
also appears in the March/April issue of NAEMT News in our ongoing
collaboration with that important organization.

John Mateus encourages instructors to remember the boost that comes from
attending conferences in his column titled “The Power of Common Interest.”
Australia’s Peter Hamilton describes dispatch in a country where they have
redefined the concept of rural. Karen Thurlow provides you with outstanding
infection control references. Our ongoing Straight Talk column confronts
diversity and the fear of differences. And Don Wetmore, our time management
expert, is back encouraging managers to consider keeping a clean desk. See
it to believe it!

A reminder: when you select the “Send Comments” button at the end of each
article, your thoughts go to the author, the editor, and the publisher. We
reply to everyone who writes to us as promptly as possible. Welcome to the
March 18th MERGINET.News!

Warm regards,
Kate Dernocoeur, Editor
Laura Bennett-Kimble, Managing Editor
