Call prioritization

Greetings from Canada

We are reviewing our current policies regarding call prioritization. My question to the services that run fixed wing is in regards to what medical model they use to prioritize their flights. Currently we have a Priority One red call which is asap launch, Priority One green which can be delayed up to 2 hours to facilitate a shift change (some calls take 6 hours plus to complete) and Priority Two that can be dispatched within 12 hours.

The problem that Priority One red calls are based on life or limb. The members of our dispatch centers are all trained to a Canadian version of the EMT or EMT II or the odd one is EMT P. One of the possibilities is that all calls labeled Priority One red will be directed through our critical care air transport physician for consult. This would not apply to our rotary scene flights. We are also considering scrapping the Priority One green designation. The priority system is very important to our program as we only have two fixed wing aircraft (one jet, one turboprop) on night shift for a province the same size as Washington, Oregon and California.

If you have any criteria that you use for prioritizing your fixed wing flights and are willing to share, it would be very much appreciated.
