Re: search and rescue

Hi Brent - In another life I was the Commanding Officer of The Navy Search and Rescue Training Squadron. My SAR Officer was a highly qualified pilot named Kerry Sullivan.  In August of 2002, he wrote a good book called "A Pilot's Guide to Rescue". It obviously applies to Crewmembers also. It's from the survivor's perspective and is a very good outline of the process. Chapters are:

1. What You need to Know
2. Calling For Help
3. You must be seen to be rescued
4. Rescue by Helicopter
5. Rescue by marine Vessel
6. Help from Above
7. Emergency Procedures
8. The Rescuers' Prospective

It's a good practical treatment of the whole subject without getting too psychological or technical. Just because it's a very broad subject with some distinct areas of knowledge, that doesn't mean there's not some things that you need to know to improve your chances of rescue.
I'm now the General Manager of Air Logistics and you can call me anytime @ 800-365-6771 and ask for Mike Suldo. I can send you my copy of the book or put you in touch with Kerry and he can get you a copy. Last I heard he was an S-76 pilot with Ochsner Flight Care out of New Orleans.
Regards,
Mike
