Re: Aircraft & ground unit decontamination
Dear fellow flight personnel, be careful about stating that the flight crews eat and drink in the "Patient Compartment" of the aircraft. I know from personal experience that OSHA back in '93 published several regulations concerning just this in ground ems vehicles. They prohibit personnel from eating, drinking, wearing contact lenses, and applying make-up in any patient compartment areas in ground ems units. This also meant that personnel could not even carry food in ambulances where there was not a separate cab with a partition that would close separating the cab from the box. Obviously, enforcing these regulations are nearly impossible, but I will admit to a 24 hr shift suspension for geting caught drinking a cup of coffee in the front seat of an ambulance in Dallas in Jan of '93. I do not know if those same regulations cover air ambulances, but I would not be surprised.
Stay Safe,
Patrick Cobb, EMT-P
Williamson County EMS
