RE: Safety
We operate two EC135's in a EMS/Public Safety role. Almost two years ago one
of our pilots and crew was on short final, less than 100 feet and less than
40 knots and close to max gross weight (4 crew members plus a pt) when they
expierenced a uncommanded engine shutdown. The pilot was able to abort the
landing and fly to the airport and succesfully complete a run on landing, no
injuries or damage to the aircraft. Pt transfer completed by the ground
unit. They were never able to locate the reason for the uncommanded engine
shut down but our mind is made up. The difference in DOC is easily offset by
what the cost could have been, both in personnel and equipment.

Austin-Travis County EMS, STAR Flight
