RE: weight issue
Bob broached the subject, a STANDARD is IMPOSSIBLE in this industry. I
have been in an A-star, a Deuce, and now a BK. All 3 in different
density altitudes and can tell you there is no way you can set a
'standard'. Each individual service needs to look at the NUMBER ONE
FACTOR which is of course, CREW SAFETY and decide WITH CREW MEMBER INPUT
what is safe/feasible for their aircraft in their environment, and if it
means personnel schedule adjustments that vary with the seasons, then SO
BE IT. Explain to ALL that a limit for SAFETY and efficiency is being
worked towards, and "here's how we're gonna do it..."
Others have also pointed out the 3 other factors that we oft forget
about, the Pilot, our crap aboard, and disbursement. I have seen a
Martha Stewart White Sale of extra stuff brought aboard, and some crew
members seem genetically pre-disposed to the "What-If" factor but we
have graduated into the High Speed, Low Drag of Aeromedicine, and need
to REALLY evaluate what we need aboard, to lessen the load. (the pilots
will LOVE you for every ounce dropped) and if you can drop weight
somewhere, you can UPGRADE what you've got somewhere else and it's a
wash to the vendor, but YOU benefit.
Weight is not just crew, it's us, them, crap, and wx.
