Re: 24 hour shifts and salary

We work two 24 hour shifts a week and are payed a salary that is based on 40 hours per week. We currently are not payed if we get a late transport and get off late. However, we are payed a stipend if we work extra shifts in our department or another in the hospital. The stipend is payed in 4 hour blocks of time.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to legally pay flight staff (or anyone else who does direct patient care) on a salary basis rather than an hourly basis.

Do a search for "FLSA exempt status" and look at the rules yourself. I would
be surprised if an employer who was really cognizant of the rules would allow
you to be paid other than hourly.

Good luck,
David
