Re: Aeromedical Prisoner Transport

We will transport prisoners, but the pt. has to be handcuffed and shackled and a guard w/a handcuff key rides with us.  If weight is an issue, than they have to go by ground.  They do not have to be intubated.  They are allowed to bring their guns.  In 18 years, we have never encountered a problem w/this type of transport.....knock on wood!

This topic has come up recently and I was wondering what everyone else's policy or procedures were when it came to the transport of prisoners?  Do you or don't you transport?  If you do how do you restrain individuals?  Will you only transport if they are intubated?  Do you take law enforcement officers or prison guards on the flight?  If so what do you do with their weapon?
