Re: Aeromedical Prisoner Transport

Discretion of flight (medical) crew. Commonly will take a second along if fully cooperative, a federal police member if not (or suspicion that will not remain so). Have not personally transported any with cuffs, but have used chemical restraints. We use the same protocol as for psychiatric patients, and weapons are left to the discretion of the flight (deck) crew - with suggestions from medical crew if patient not chemically or physically restrained already. Some crews do not require all ammunition to be in the captains control, but they almost all require the weapon be cleared and ammo secured elsewher on the members person. Pepper spray and ASP or baton etc remains with the RCMP member. Fixed wing service - 2-8 hour trips. Hope this helps.

Title: Aeromedical Prisoner Transport

This topic has come up recently and I was wondering what everyone else's policy or procedures were when it came to the transport of prisoners?  Do you or don't you transport?  If you do how do you restrain individuals?  Will you only transport if they are intubated?  Do you take law enforcement officers or prison guards on the flight?  If so what do you do with their weapon?

Sincerely,

Rex Alexander
