Re: FAA Part 135 Flight Info
Be very careful in your implementation of assigning the pilot duties to
other "crewmembers".
All of the responsibilities of this nature must be specified in the Part 135
Operations Manual for your program. One of the requirements is to spell out
exactly how, when and with whom a flight plan must be filed. Position
reports are likewise covered. Check the Operations Specifications section of
your Ops Manual.
Depending on where you are and under which Principal Inspector you are
assigned at the local FAA FSDO, unless you have a training / evaluation
program, you could be doing something you are not authorized to do.
Our program operates in the O'Hare Class B airspace, and we do not find it
difficult to have the pilot transmit position reports, etc. After a while,
it becomes second nature for the pilot to handle these duties.
A thorough training program covering everything from aviation terminology
through cockpit resource management is a must if you are to have a working
crew relationship. Lucky for us, we are not a vended program, all of our med
crew, pilots, mechanics, bean counters, etc. all work for the same company,
which also owns the aircraft.
Hope this sheds some light on your question. Always happy to be of
assistance.
