RE: Heaters in Aircraft
We utilize a ceramic type box heater, but do not plug it directly into the aircraft. Instead, we run a separate cord from one of the cord reels around the helipad and unplug it and store it before flight. Apparently, there was a problem one time awhile ago with plugging a heater directly into one of the AC plugs in the aircraft. Also, on the subject of fluids/drugs in the aircraft when it's cold, etc. We have an IV fluid warmer that is plugged in in the aircraft year around to keep 2 1000 cc bags of fluid warm. We keep our Mannitol in with the IV fluids in the warmer and very rarely run into problems with it crystallizing. This works pretty well actually. We carry two Thomas Pack drug bags and they are never left in the aircraft between flights, regardless of the weather conditions.
Hope that helps. Fly safe!

Subject: Heaters in Aircraft
Is anyone using some type of 110volt heater that is kept plugged in
while the aircraft is on the ground. One of our bases is in an
unheated hanger here in NY and it gets cold. The mechanics are not
fans of plugging in a heater and leaving it unattended. Any
suggestions other than keeping the meds off of the aircraft?
