Re: Heaters in Aircraft

If it is just fluids and meds you are worried about, one solution I have
used is to place a heating pad inside the thomas pack, so it is permanently
there, between the bottom module holders and the pack itself, and the cord
comes out through a small hole through a pocket. Put the pad on low or
medium and you have a warm bag. Unplug before flights, and stow the cord in
the pocket.
Here in Wyoming, we too use the Pelonis (or similar) ceramic heater inside
the cabin, as it keeps the ice off the windows. Our Bell 222 sled pedestal
has a built-in fluid warmer. We utilize a dedicated extension cord for the
heater so it does not draw through the aircraft's ac circuits. The nice
thing about the ceramic heaters is they are small, cheap, the unit itself
does not get hot, and they are wonderfully efficient. We set ours on the
floor, mid-cabin, and it keeps the ice off all around.
I have done the same exact thing with a small heater in an A-Star in New
Mexico, with the same excellent results.
