It's not neccesarily a myth...
What you say may be true of a triple lumen type catheter that is often seen
as central veinous access. They usually have an 18 gauge internal diameter.
You assertion is definitely NOT True when compared to an 8 French
introducer, also commonly inserted for central venous access. Just try
infusing fluid or blood through one of those and you'll see how rapid you
can empty a liter of crystalloid or a unit of packed cells.

I do understand that not everyone has veins that will take a 14G, but to
think that a central line is more conducive to rapid infusion is erroneous.
