Femoral central venous lines.
I am still looking for more feedback regarding femoral venous access by flight teams. We are planning to approach our medical command physician on this issue. We feel that there is a certain subset of patients that we fly who have no suitable peripheral venous access sites (fx's, IVDA etc)whose care is hampered by the inability to obtain access (RSI in the combative or CHI patient, shock etc). While this number is not exccessively large we feel there is a number of patients who may benefit from this intervention.
Just want to know what other flight teams use as a "back up" if no suitable peripheral IV's are obtained in the patient who really needs access. IF you do utilize femoral venous access, who performs it, any age restrictions?
Thank you for your help.
