The October 3rd editorial additions to MERGINET.com are now online. Please
check your “worldwide website for emergency responders” to see what’s up!
With October 6-12 being National Fire Prevention Week, we honor firefighters
with an overview of this prominent and important initiative, now in its 80th
year. We profile EMS veteran Erik Gaull after his exciting race for a seat
on Washington, D.C.’s beleaguered city council. Although he lost the
September 10 primary, Gaull is inspirational in demonstrating alternative
ways people in the emergency services can have an impact. We haven’t heard
the last from him yet!
Another exciting depiction of emergency service comes with this month’s
release of a memoir by Michael Perry, “Population: 485,” which we review.
Perry is a gifted writer and experienced EMT-firefighter whose book is a
must-buy gift for the upcoming holidays.
Tonya Schafer has written another interesting profile, this time about a
retired paramedic, Jim Lemieux, who spent more than 30 years serving his
Idaho community.
According to our feedback from part one of “Law Bytes: Watch Out for
‘Negligent Completion’ of the PCR!” we know readers are eager for part two,
which is now online. No other MERGINET article has generated as many
forwarded copies as part one did.
By the way, note another cool MERGINET feature: Now you can scroll to the
bottom of an article and click the new "Discuss Article" button. See where
it takes you! You will need to register on the system in order to
participate, but anyone can read the posts.
Vic & Vern are back, with a zany approach to EMS Leadership Awards. If you’
ll be at EMS Expo in Nashville, be sure to stop by the MERGINET/Moore
Medical booth, where Vic & Vern will be performing live! Mike Taigman’s
monthly review takes us into food politics, and Don Wetmore encourages us,
in Management Matters, to employ the skill of prioritizing our “to-do” lists
effectively.
The global nature of MERGINET’s community remains a fascinating element of
this worldwide communication medium, and we’d like to hear from you no
matter where you are. We reply to everyone who writes. Send email to
publisher Richard Bilger at Rbilger@MERGInet.com or to Kate at
editor@merginet.com.
Welcome to October 2002!
