Now online at MERGINET.com: the September 3rd editorial additions. Please
check your “worldwide website for emergency responders” to see what’s up.
Our newest main features in On the Scene bring safety to the forefront.
Tonya Schafer writes about farm safety in honor of National Farm Safety &
Health Week (Sept. 15-21). Mona Vanek distilled a daylong class on how to
stay safe when dealing with clandestine meth labs. Safety remains a theme in
Education Station, where “Basics of Roadside Safety” is the title of Kate’s
article.
Tonya’s article appears collaboratively in “EMS Magazine” this month, and
Kate’s appears in “NAEMT News.” These collaborations are intended to promote
the concept that no single communication medium is the only one for people
in emergency care. A widely educated person seeks information in print
media, on the Internet, at conferences and classes -- as a life-long
learning opportunity!
MERGINET’s In Touch section holds a heart-rending essay by Jeff Robinson
about his nephew, who died in a tragic accident. Also, there is an article
about noted industry child advocate, Liz Wertz, who was awarded the first
Amanda E. Wertz Memorial Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC)
Award. The award was named in honor and memory of her daughter, and
receiving it was a complete surprise to Liz! Then, for a laugh, take a peek
at Vic & Vern’s column, where they revisit EMS Week and drum up all sorts of
alternative schemes. In Reviewers Roundup, Dick Clinchy doesn’t offer a
review this time, but instead offers his enthusiastic opinion of a
mail-order med service.
In Management Matters, Tom Scott continues his admirable and
much-appreciated quest to clarify the new Medicare fee schedule rules. Also,
the lawyers at PWW, LLC (Doug Wolfberg, Steve Wirth, and Jim Page) interpret
some of the major changes in the final modifications of the US Department of
Health and Human Services (DHHS) HIPAA Privacy Rule.
While new editorial material rotates onto the site every two weeks, please
bear in mind that the Sharps Container (on the left-hand side of MERGINET’s
home page) is supplemented almost daily, sometimes more. We seek out the
most relevant and interesting news and information from around the world, so
stop by often to see what’s up.
With autumn in the air here in the northern hemisphere, our colleagues “down
under” are no doubt enjoying the first warm days of spring. The global
nature of MERGINET’s community remains a fascinating element of this
worldwide communication medium, and we’d like to hear from you no matter
where you plug your computer in! We reply to everyone who writes. Send email
to publisher Richard Bilger at rbilger@Merginet.com or to Kate at
editor@Merginet.com.
Welcome to September 2002!
