Former EMS pilot killed fighting forest fire - update
Yesterday, while dropping water on hot spots in the Big Elk fire near Estes
Park, Colorado, a former EMS helicopter pilot was killed when his SA 316B
Lama crashed. Gordon Knight, 52, who had flown in Des Moines with Life
Flight, and in Denver, with Flight For Life, was a well-known and respected
pilot in the Colorado region.
Details of the crash are still sketchy. While making a water drop near
Pinewood Springs at appoximately 1840 mdt, he was heard to radio a distress
call before his aircraft was seen to crash in a remote area. By the time
rescuers could get to the site, there was nothing that could be done.
Please keep Gordon's wife, Susan, a former flight nurse, in your prayers.
