RE: Flightmed digest, Vol 1 #296 - 9 msgs

I have followed this thread with some interest. Fear, whether real or
imagined can be a distraction, at least and debilitating, at worst. Even
though all of my kids are grow, I still worry about them. I don't hesitate
to tell my wife I love her every time she goes out the door to work. She is
a full-time flight nurse/paramedic, while I, unfortunately, must work in
corporate America to pay the bills and only get to fly one shift a week, if
I am lucky. Our service suffered a fatal accident seven years ago and many
of our friends and colleagues are still incredulous (How can you work
there...aren't you afraid of crashing[dying]?)
Life is a risk, but what would the alternative be? I have been a paramedic
for many years and probably over-reacted or under-reacted to one of my
children's illnesses, like many of you. I can understand daydreaming or
feeling a profound sense of sadness as you hypothesize about different
scenarios... But realize that if you think it is affecting your work, don't
try to deal with it alone, get help.
