Re: Doubling ground transport patients
They are not the only ones who have an MCI unit that can also be used for transport. I don't work there so all following info may not be up to date, but have toured it and seen it used a a number of out of town disasters.
Edmonton has a highway bus with 5 fully supported sretcher positions as well as 5 hanging stretchers for stable patients and seats for 12 medical staff as well as another 6 patients. Kneeling suspension, special doors and ramps allow quick loading etc. Can also be configured to hold 3 ER style stryker hospital gurneys I believe, or something like 10 wheelchairs and has OR supplies and overhead OR lights. I believe O2 supplies are liquid and are topped up on a regular basis, and medical air/suction and filtered/regulated power is also available adequate for all ten stretcher positions.
Designed to respond up to 5 hours away by road and set up as a MASH type facility at disaster sites, or in relief of rural hospital affected by flood/fire etc, as well as for in-town large scale evacuations of medical facilities or multiple patient transfers. Staffing chosen by mission, 4 medics (pulled from 2 ALS road crews)/an RT/an EMT driver/ and a Medic Supervisor is basic MCI response team, supplemented by RN-EMT's and MD's as required. Routine in-town transfers of 3-12 patients is 2 medics and 2 EMT's (1 ALS and 1 BLS road crew pulled)
Fly Safe.
