Questions on the CGF Gallet helmet. What ANSI standard(s) does it meet?
(Impact and hearing) Has it been certified by a testing lab like UL?
I've had 19 years experience inspecting and/or maintaining 3 different
helmets in the military. Not all nice helmets are good helmets. Food
for thought-Lighter doesn't mean better. A flight helmet is a good
helmet when it does it's job. Routine day to day is noise attenuation.
It needs to protect your hearing. Next is impact resistance. During a
crash sequence- objects like a persons head move. The helmet needs to
protect the head. If the head should strike a surface the helmet needs
to reduce the impact and severity of any injury that might happen. This
is also the reason you have lap belts AND shoulder belts to wear. To
keep your head from striking an object during a crash sequence. Just
like in a car, there have been too many survivable helicopter accidents
where the occupants died because of head injuries. Remember, you don't
wear a helmet to look cool, you wear one because someday, it may save
your life.
