FROM THE EDITORS:

The July 18 release of MERGINET.News is now online with a great essay by
John Becknell, “Toward a Personal Definition of Heroism” in our In Touch
section. Regular contributor Bryan Bledsoe is back in our On the Scene
section with a compelling article titled “Folk Medicine and EMS: The
Mexican-American Experience.” He writes about the various things emergency
providers should bear in mind when encountering people who have sought
alternative medical care. Also in On the Scene is a great explanation about
the art of lobbying by Stephen L'Heureux from the National Academy of
Emergency Dispatch (NAED).
John Mateus offers us information on Medic First Aid and Karen Thurlow has
written about the other “kissing disease” in our Education Station section.
Also reprinted there for easy access and use is the new NIOSH/CDC document
titled “Suggested Guidance for Supervisors at Disaster Rescue Sites.”
Interested in minimizing back injury? Check out the Stryker Model 6252 stair
chair review in Reviewers Roundup by Dick Clinchy.
In our Management Matters area, Don Hunjadi writes effectively about the
importance of keeping web sites up to date, and Don Wetmore offers ways to
“Just Say No” (to people who want a piece of your time!).
Don’t forget to forward articles from MERGINET.News to your friends and
colleagues. It’s easy! Simply click on the appropriate button at the bottom
of each of our articles. And you are always encouraged to click on the
reader feedback button; your comments will then go to the author, the
editor, and the publisher. We reply to everyone who writes as promptly as
possible. If you’re in doubt about how to properly disseminate readings from
MERGINET, please take a moment to read our Reprint Policy under “Newsroom”
on the orange bar.
Welcome to the July 18th release of MERGINET.News!
