SCHEDULING...

PLEASE POST TO ALL SERVICES FOR FEEDBACK?

Dear Service members:

LifeFlight of Maine is actively seeking information on rotating schedules.  We are presently working 12 hour shifts with regular partners.

Our present schedule is developed 3 months in advance and flight nurse / flight paramedic teams sign up (mostly together) with individual flexibility.  The option to have first choice of shifts is awarded on a rotating basis.  This is set up for both day and night crews, The regular work week includes three, twelve hour shifts in order to fulfill a 36 hour work week.

One of the main problems that we are attempting to solve is that night crew flight requests are received much less frequently which limits call exposure.  Also, voluntary partner changes or temporary shift swaps are very difficult to initiate as night shifts are not very popular among most of the crews.  In fact, some crew members end up scheduled on nights as much as 3 years waiting for a day slot.

We find that all of the scheduling patterns that we have looked at have advantages and disadvantages, however, we are ready for a workable change.

Instead of us "re-inventing the wheel", We are asking for help from you!  Please email us with information on your schedule and let us know what works and what doesn't?

Thank you VERY MUCH!
