Re: Moving Helicopters
The hospitals in my region have all the business they
can handle. They aren't trying to attract more
business, especially from competing air medical
services. It's just very expensive to relocate
helicopters. We have certain criteria for moving the
machines such as: "Level 1 trauma" or "Critically
I'll, unstable medical" It's hard to argue with the
inbound aircraft when they are requesting we move a
machine for a "Level 1 trauma" patient, when after
evaluation in the ED the patient had an ankle
fracture. We have other landing areas and
transportation options on our campus. Seems like we
are exspending a lot of jet fuel and engine starts for
other air services convenience. If we charged a fee
for relocating our machines, the other air services
might think twice about asking us to move for a stable
patient.
