Re: Zoll / med pumps / battery life
Mostly agree re: IVAC/Alaris/Siemens mini-med (depending on when obtained). Comments however:
- would be nice if a computer utility existed so could connect to base computer to enter drugs your service uses other than those in the memory. "Other Drug" has potential for confusion if all 3 channels say same. Also to fix accidental placment of a channel into "service" mode. (Biomed for us is a courier out and wait for return. Minimum of 1 week without pump. Often 2 or 3 weeks)
- Need to take along the battery charger if on flights over 60 minutes or so. With all 3 channels going we get about 3 hours (battery replaced 6 months ago). With (BE-200 missions) 30 min pickup, 20 ground to gravel strip (by RCMP suburban or local pickup = no inverter), 10 min load/unload/wait before can connect to aircraft power (after engine start), 10 min unload/load at other end, 35 ground (not all responding ambulances have inverters), 15 minute unload/admission/get to ER bed at the other end we have used 2 hours. When 45 minutes IFR reserve time is added (safety factor for planning) for the flight, this leaves us 15 minutes available for the flight (if no power supply is available)! Since we do trips of over 5 hours actual flight time, and expose equipment to -40 degrees (batteries last about 40% as long) during the winter regularly, bringing power supply is a must.
One advantage of Zoll "M". Plug in is with monitor at all times and canno be forgotten/misplaced!
