RE: MDs for field amputations / cesareans
You can find much information on field amputations in several military
medical textbooks. Like one person said, this has been done by many non
physician personnel, the only question would be "should be", and "what
training".
As I have said before (on the c-section issue), instead of saying "we'll
just call a doc", look at the issues, look at what provides most appropriate
and prompt pt. care, and the training involved. Anything but sticking your
head in the sand. That is what makes the difference between a "Goat rope"
as the initial post put it) and making a bad situation come out good.

Not to change the subject, but speaking of field cesareans, how many
RN/EMT-P flight crews are trained to do this, and how do you practice and
stay current? What are your criteria for performing one?
I remember posting this question awhile ago, and getting a very poor
response...ao anyone who does these or knows of a system that does, please
let me know...it's sort of an area of personal interest for me.
Thanks, and keep flying safe!
