Re: MDs for field amputations

As a transport nurse for University of Maryland/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma, we receive what we call a "Go team" transport a few times a month.  Most are a considerable distance and therefor are flown.  Some local, in Baltimore, are completed by ground.  We have defined approved members who respond.  There are ALWAYS two team members who respond from the hospital, a trauma surgeon and a CRNA.  Additionally, some physicians will respond with a POV to the scene if close.  These physicians are staff, but also have an EMS background (one is our medical director and BCFD medical director).  They have the capability to respond with lights and sirens.  The team has specific turnout gear and equipment and blood designated for response.
