Re: Helicopter downtime compensation

Hello All!
Over the years we have been paid hourly or by salary. Regardless of
the method of pay we have always been paid our usual wage whenever the
helicopter was down for scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. Our
administrators always felt it was not right for us not to get paid just
because the aircraft all of a sudden needed a part that had to come in from
Timbuctoo. Depending on the situation or the base, we either went home,
stayed at the base or on call for ground transports, did clinical hours, or
did local PR duties (visiting our referring EMS agencies, etc.). Generally,
there was always something to do to take up the time.
We also always get paid our full wage for the whole 24 hour shift.
There is no partial wage for sleeping. That part doesn't make much sense to
me. Any type of call can come in at time of day. I can see how the concept
would appeal to a bean counter, though.
