FROM THE EDITORS:
*****************************************************************
This is to alert you to take a look at the latest information on
MERGINET.News, just released. We are proud to offer nine new articles and
columns to keep you up to date in the latest in emergency care.
As the northern hemisphere heads into summer, it’s time to think about
summertime adversaries like Toxicodendron. Check out our informative article
on poison ivy and its relatives, by Bryan Bledsoe, DO, FACEP. And in that
same vein, Tonya Schafer offers a feature about the role poison centers play
in our world. You’ll see this article concurrently published as our monthly
collaboration with EMS Magazine. A funny guy responded to John Becknell’s
recent article on buying stretchers with such humor that we offer it to you,
In His Own Words. And Becknell touches the other side with a good article
about crying -- yes, it’s for everyone!
>From a managerial/rule-making point of view, HIPAA raises its head in both
Law Bytes (where Doug Wolfberg and Steve Wirth discuss the important privacy
issues being addressed), and in Tom Scott’s column (where he reviews a CD
ROM that can help make sense out of the new HIPAA rules). Vic & Vern lighten
it up with a piece called “Prom Promises.” And, rounding out the issue, Don
Wetmore talks about horse sense as it relates to time management.
As always, we welcome your comments, concerns, and compliments. We reply to
everyone who writes. Send email to publisher Richard Bilger at
rbilger@merginet.com or to Kate at editor@merginet.com.
Welcome to June 2002!
