Re: Patient followup procedure for EMS and interfacility agencies

1) Do you keep a log daily and if so who is responsible for keeping it
updated?

Yes - the crew on duty logs all standbys and calls taken, to include run
number, location of call, hospital transported to, and patients name

2) Any issues with pt confidentiality?

Yes - the hospitals are often reluctant to give out any information on the
patients diagnosis, condition, or prongosis, which I think is absolutely
ridiculous....I mean, if I'm calling about him, I probably already have his
name, address, phone number, insurance info, ss#, time, date, location of
incident, etc....and now you (the hospital staff) won't even tell me how he's
doing? Come on....

3) How many follow ups do you do for one pt?

We are only required to do one....a little while after dropping them off,
just to get their diagnosis and condition. Then we call the requesting agency
back to tell them how the patient did with us and how they are doing at the
hospital. We often try to follow up later on, also, if it is a case we are
interested in.

Hope this helps,
