cross-training flight nurses

Our flight program trains nurses, without prior pre-hospital experience or EMT certifications, to work in the field on a helicopter.  All of our nurses are cross-trained to work on fixed-wing, rotor-wing, and ground ambulance.  The nurses are required to have ACLS,PALS, PHTLS, and a trauma training course.  They are put through the same field training and evaluation a new paramedic is, and are trained on the job.  Any other flight programs out there doing this?  My Big Question - what are the experiences of other programs training a critical care/ER nurse to function as a paramedic?  This is not Nurse versus Paramedic issue.  I'm curious what the folks have experienced with this type of training.  Thanks.  Lindy B CFRN Mercy Flights, Medford Oregon
