RE: IABPs

I am a Critical Care Transport Nurse Currently on a Ground service in the
Greater Philly are in PA.

We have a Datascope 97 IABP which is kept at our base. All our ALS units
are capable of transporting patients on IABP, and all our PHRNs are trained
in the use. The PM is done by the local hospital with which we are
affiliated. We find we have very little repair problem with this unit, and
the few times it has been OOS, we take a sending facility's pump. The unit
is a transport unit with extra battery power for "worst case" scenarios. We
carry our own A-line setup, but various cables which are usually compatible
with one facility or another.

Several of us were discussing IABP transport at TNATC this past week, and
decided that an article on this very subject would be in order. Look for it
this fall in the Air-Med Journal!

Please contact me if I can be of any further help.
