Re: TRAINING
I agree with RJ. Sounds good but you'll just need time. Here at the Univ. of Michigan Survival Flight the requirements include at least 5 years of nursing experience with a minimum of three years combined critical care/emergency department experience in a tertiary setting. A minimum of one year in each clinical area and experience caring for the pediatric patient is required in one of the two above clinical areas. I wouldn't worry too much about ATLS...they have the course here but it's expensive and you're only able to audit the class if you're not a physician. I would think working toward your paramedic license would be much more beneficial. It's not required for getting the job but you have to get it once you do.

I was wondering I have been a nurse for a year I work in the SICU NEURO
TRAUMA UNIT at level one trauma center in MI . I also have been working for
an agency in the Detroit area hospitals which includes working in CCU,MICU,
BURN ICU trying to expand my knowlodge base and also I just took a job
working contigent in the ER . Prior to becoming a RN I worked in the SICU for
six years as a critical care tech and an ER tech and a nurse tech which
included total pt care the only difference was that I wasn't able to pass
meds . I have my ACLS TNCC and I am planning to take PALS and the CCRN here
shortly . If any one could give me any suggestions on what I can do to help
my chances of becoming a flight nurse and also does any one know where I
could take ATLS or any other coures here in MI . Thank you for any help.
